Public engagement has concluded for this project.

The PRRD wants to help seniors stay in their homes for as long as possible by providing services such as healthy meals, housekeeping, and yard maintenance.

If you live in Electoral Area D or part of Electoral Area E, this will affect your taxes if approved.

Does the senior who is a rural renter qualify for these services? If there are fees attached to the services, can they be used as a deduction for income tax purposes?

Linda asked almost 3 years ago

Hello, yes, the service will be available to renters.  You will not be required to own the property to receive the service.

It is unknown if the user fees can be used as a deduction for income purposes.  It would be best to ask a financial expert or accountant.

Can the senior specify which housekeeping jobs needs to be done, or is this up to the contractor? Also, what if the senior cannot afford to pay the fees specified for any of the services offered? And, what if the senior operates a working farm and lives in the house on the farm? Will snowplowing be included in having access to the farmyard? If rural persons require water in a cistern, will this be delivered OR will contractors help to put a turtle tank into a truck box in order for the senior to pick up their own water?

Hello, at this time, the Board has not entered into an agreement with a contractor for the proposed service.  If the service receives the support of the residents, the Board will issue a request for proposals from qualified contractors to carry out the new service for the PRRD.

Housekeeping - There will be an approved list of acceptable housekeeping jobs included in the contract with the contractor. The senior can pick from the list which house keeping jobs they would like, but they will not be able to add additional items that are not on the approved list.

Drinking Water - The provision of drinking water has not been a consideration in the service to date, and it is unlikely that it will be included in the future.

Snowplowing - At this time, it is not known what additional areas on the property will be included.  That will be dependent on the proposals received from contractors if the new service passes.

User fees - At this time it has not been determined what the user fees for the service will be, nor if there will be a process approved by the Board to waive them.
