Rolla Dyke Decommissioning Consultation
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is holding a consultation on the Rolla Creek Decommissioning project. This project was approved by the PRRD's Board of Directors on October 7, 2021. The project is to take apart (decommission) the existing Rolla Creek Dyke near 215 Road in Rolla, British Columbia.
The dyke is a regulated structure under the Dike Maintenance Act. To decommission it, the owner (PRRD), must follow the Procedural Guidelines for Decommissioning of a Regulated Dike.
The PRRD made an initial application in November 2022 and, after receiving approval, created two of the four planned channels. Since then, the Inspector of Dikes requested additional information. An updated application incorporating this information was made on November 5, 2025.
Updated Decommissioning Plan and Consultation
The updated Decommissioning Plan involves cutting four, five-meter channels through the dyke. This specific engineering design was chosen because it meets the Ministry's requirement to remove flood protection beyond the 10-year level. It also improves drainage for properties south of the dyke and helps the PRRD reduce long-term maintenance costs.
Following provincial guidelines, the PRRD is now holding a consultation period to gather public feedback on the following:
