The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is talking to Golata Creek community members (including Clearview, Clayhurst, Goodlow, and Flatrock) to help decide the future of the grounds located at 6161 Golata Creek Road. The existing hall was closed in 2022 due to structural safety issues. The PRRD has allocated $500,000, depending on community support via referendum (which is a community-wide ballot on a specific question), to develop the site.

The plan is for the Golata Creek Community Association, who have run the hall for a long time, to keep managing the potential new space. They would do this through an agreement with the PRRD. The agreement would include things like requirements for safety, regular reporting and annual inspections.

What We're Asking the Community

  1. Are you in support of building a new community space?
  2. What are your priorities for a community space?
  3. Do you support using tax dollars to fund a new community space?

Key Decisions

To keep planning for a possible new site moving forward, the following decisions will be made by the Regional Board using community input and staff recommendations:

  • Determining the type of space to explore: hall replacement, outdoor recreation or other community-lead options
  • Funding: Deciding on whether to establish a 'taxation service area' (a defined geographic boundary where property owners contribute to a specific service) for ongoing operations and maintenance
  • Community referendum: A mandatory vote to approve the service area and associated taxation

Next Steps for the Community

  • Learn more: Explore this project page to learn more about the facility history, potential cost projections, and designs (coming soon).
  • Community Meeting: A meeting will be arranged for the community to attend, with the hopes to determine support for one of the concept designs, and construction & ongoing operational costs.
  • Phase 1 Engagement Results: To know more about the Phase 1 Engagement, and review the survey and community meeting results, as summary can be found under documents.
