Following the public consultation process, the expansion of fire protection for Charlie Lake Fire Department has been approved by the Inspector of Municipalities. As of January 1, 2022 the expansion areas of in Area C and Area B, specifically the areas of Sawyer Subdivision, Red Creek South, Bear Flats, and South Montney, will receive fire protection services from the Charlie Lake Fire Department. The new service areas and tax increases will begin as of January 1, 2022. As of this date, residents in the expansion areas can call 911 for emergencies, and the Charlie Lake Fire Hall at 250-785-1424 for non-emergencies.

Tax Rate Increase

Tax Rate Increase for Charlie Lake Fire Protection

Services will result in a tax increase for the property owners within the new expansion areas. The figures below show a estimated tax rate that is equivalent to the current rate for service in the fire protection area. Please use the calculator below to show the proposed tax rate increase based on your property's assessed value. 





Tax Rate
The tax rate is $0.6664 per $1000 of assessed value on land and improvements, and is equivalent to the current rate for service in the Fire protection area. If approved the properties will be included in the service and pay the same rate that is currently being charged. 

Will I receive lower insurance rates for my property insurance?

Please contact your home insurance provider to discuss the proposed changes and whether you would qualify for a rate reduction. This proposed expansion is to provide public safety and mitigation to the properties and is not based off of a reduction of insurance rates.
