Next Steps for Golata Community Space Project – Concept Design and Cost Estimates

We're excited to share a new update on the Golata Creek Community Space project! The engagement results, including feedback from the community meeting and the public survey, indicated community interest in moving forward with the development of the two layout options (one for a small community hall and one for an outdoor recreation space) and the cost estimates for each option. A summary of the engagement results is listed below or can also be found under the documents tab here.

Support for a new facility (50% of survey respondents) with the following 5 top ranked spaces:

Kitchen
Bathrooms
Children’s play space
Meeting room
Bar area

When asked about what things do you like about the current community hall, you shared:

Support for a new outdoor recreation space (59% of survey respondents) with the following 5 ranked amenities:

Picnic shelter and tables
Playground
Outhouse
Fire pits
Multipurpose sports field or baseball diamond

When asked what things you would improve, you shared:

When asked about whether people were willing to support a new community space with tax dollars, of survey respondents:

36.4% said that they would be willing to support a new community space with tax dollars.
13.6% said that they would not be willing to support a new community space with tax dollars.
50% said they may be willing, but it would depend on the cost (and what was developed).

When asked to describe what your ideal community space, you shared:

When asked about the dollar amount per month that people were willing to spend through taxation for a community space, respondents indicated:

18.2% did not want to contribute through taxation.
36.4% would contribute between $4 - $10 ($48 - $120 annually).
36.4% would contribute between $10 - $20 ($120 - $240 annually).
4.5% would contribute between $20 - $30 ($240 - $360 annually).
4.5% would contribute between $40 -$50 ($480 - $600 annually).

As the first phase of the public engagement is now complete, the results were summarized for the Regional Board, who on May 22, 2025 passed a resolution that approves the development of options with cost estimates be developed, as preferred by the community. The designs, along with the costs and possible taxation for construction and operations, will be presented to the Golata Creek Community at a future Community meeting and through another round of engagement. The meeting date will be determined later this year.

Exciting Progress on the Golata Creek Community Space - Your Voice Matters!

We're thrilled to share an update on the Golata Creek Community Space project! The first phase of public engagement concluded on Friday, May 9, 2025, and we want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who participated and shared their valuable insights.

Your contributions are incredibly important in shaping the future of this community space. We received a fantastic response, with 22 completed surveys providing crucial feedback, and 23 enthusiastic residents joining us for the in-person community meeting at Clearview Arena on April 30, 2025.

What's Next?

The project team is now carefully compiling all the feedback we received. This information will be presented to the Regional Board on May 22, 2025, to help guide the next steps for the project. We will also be posting a summary of the public engagement results right here on this project page shortly after the Board meeting, so you can see the collective input.

Once we receive direction from the Board on how to proceed, we will communicate the decision back to you. This update will include details about the next steps in the project.

Hey Golata Creek community (including folks in Clearview, Clayhurst, Goodlow and Flatrock)

We're holding a Community Meeting to discuss the exciting possibility of a new community space at 6161 Golata Creek Road. Come share your thoughts with us on Tuesday, April 30th, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Clearview Arena.

This is a chance to connect with your neighbours and help shape the future of our community. While everyone with an interest in the project is welcome to join the discussion, please be aware that any future decisions on funding through a referendum would involve residents within the designated service area who contribute through their taxes.

This meeting is the first step in understanding what's important to you, so your participation is vital as the Peace River Regional District considers the next steps.
